Matt Jennings BTech MA MRAeS

 

Principal Consultant, Aviation Safety Consulting Limited.

 

Matt Jennings has over 35 years experience of aviation.  He served for 27 years in the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot, operating in a wide variety of roles and environments worldwide and was an active flying instructor and examiner for over 20 years.  Experienced in SAR as both a primary and secondary role, he has been awarded two Queen’s Commendations for maritime helicopter rescues.  He commanded an embarked front line helicopter squadron and later the Naval Flying Standards organisation and also worked in the Ministry of Defence, briefing ministers and dealing with emergency planning and military aid to the civil community. 

He joined the Advisory Service of Shell Aircraft International in 2004, conducting audits of fixed and rotary wing operators all over the world.  He then joined the Air Safety and Global Projects team as a Senior Adviser, conducting accident and incident investigations, providing advice on safety and operational aspects of aviation, including contracts, and the introduction into service of new aircraft types and equipment.  He left Shell Aircraft in 2008 to set up Aviation Safety Consulting Limited. He has since provided aviation risk management advice to clients, conducted audits and a variety of other aviation safety activity, including development of corporate aviation strategies, quality and safety management systems, preparation of ITTs, facilitation of aviation safety workshops and incident investigations. 

Experienced on single, twin and triple-engined helicopters, he holds a fixed wing private pilot’s licence and a commercial rotary wing licence, and is type rated on the EC135 helicopter.  He has completed an ISO 9000 Lead Auditor's course and is also a trained and experienced aircraft accident investigator.  An active member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, he chaired the Rotary Wing sub-Group of an International Working Group which developed ICAO document 9625 Volume 2, a new system for the qualification of helicopter flight simulators.  He was also the first chairman of the Helicopter Mission Training Group of the International Pilot Training Consortium (IPTC).

Matt has audited extensively in Europe, North and South America, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia and Australia and is a fluent French speaker.  In the last few years he has worked in: Egypt, Tunisia, Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Italy, UK, Ireland, Russia, UAE, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Canada, USA and Brazil.
